PSOM replacement/repair in 1995 Ford F150 trucks
(Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module)
6 cyl. Standard transmission, 2 wheel drive.
My symptoms were: ABS light on, rough idle, rough running, speedo needle jumping wildly and sometimes the speedo going dead.

In searching the available Ford truck forums I read the solder joints on the PSOM units were notorious for being defective on the 1995 models; and that a simple resoldering of the printed circuit board usually took care of the problem. But how to access it wasn't fully described. I figured I might as well document my journey and share the experience.

I would suggest taking the cluster to a clean
work area at this point and lay it on a towel
or something equally soft for the next steps.
You don't want to scratch the assembly or get it dirty.

Re-assemble everything by following the steps in reverse. The engine won't start unless you remember to plug the fuel tank switch back in. I forgot.

My truck had 304,742 miles on it when I did this repair. It now no longer idles rough, accelerates fine, the ABS light went out and the speedo only has the original 'flicker' over 70mph as original. If you replaced the PSOM with a junkyard pull or put in a new unit you'll have to go to a Ford dealer to have the mileage reset and also adjusted for your tire size. It's simple for them and they'll only charge you a nominal fee. Good luck. Brent Dugan 2011
