This one hasn't been touched since I started it the last time so I'm thinking it must be something caused by sitting for four years, I just don't know if I should be getting a spark when I turn on the ignition and touch the points with a screwdriver. I changed the ignition switch so maybe one or more wires at the switch is touching the tank metal? Could the communtator have a film on it from sitting all that time? I need instructions with whatever it is because I know next to nothing about the mag or whatever makes fire on these bikes. Sonny ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- Had the same problem. I had an insulator on the wrong side of the points.Grounded the right out.Mutt bailed me out on that one. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- After not starting my 56' Hummer 165 for about three or four years I tried to start it today after cleaning and coating the tank, replacing the ignition switch and some other maintenance and it is not getting any spark at the plug or the points. If I turn the ignition switch on and put a screwdriver between the points should I get a spark or not? What do you think the problem is? Also, should the headlight burn when the engine isn't running? It does not burn. Please tell me what I need to do to get spark. I didn't have time to read the troubleshooting section in the book yet but I will look at that tomorrow. Many Thanks, Sonny |
