RON AND ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED: RUBBER SPRING BREAKAGE IS OF INTEREST TO ALL THAT HAVE THE 48-50 MODELS OR ARE REBUILDING THEM. I BELIEVE THERE WERE ONLY TWO DIFFERENT REPRODUCTIONS OF THESE RUBBER SPRING SETS. THE SETS I CURRENTLY HAVE IN STOCK ARE SUSPECT AS HAVING A DUROMETER HARDNESS THAT IS TOO HIGH FOR THE INTENDED USE. I DO NOT PRETEND TO BE A RUBBER "EXPERT" BUT IT APPEARS THE HYSTERESIS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONSTANT STRETCH-RELAX CYCLE CAUSES THE MEDIUM TO GET BRITTLE AND BREAK. I AM WORKING WITH A PORTLAND RUBBER COMPANY TO SEE IF THEY CAN DEFINE THE PROBLEM AND PRODUCE A GOOD SET. THIS IS A VERY OLD COMPANY AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO PRODUCE WHAT IS NEEDED. IN THE MEANTIME, I SUGGEST YOU ALL HOLD OFF ON BUYING ANY RUBBER SPRING SETS UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED.
