Travis, The first chrome muffler (from the Factory) came out on the 1963 Scat. As for the other chrome items, they were never offered for the lightweight bikes as such (atleast not in any of the pile of factory catalogs I have), but were stock components on other big models. If you were customizing your 1954 model in 1954, you could go down to the dealership and buy the chrome tail lamp hood, off a 54 K model,or the Delco chrome horn cover off a 54 ServiCar and put them on your bike. They would be "period correct" only. H-D started offering chrome crash bars for the lightweight models in 1954.(I have a NOS set with the sticker still on them)

Hello fellow Harley Hummer enthusiasts !! I am going to be showing my 1954 165 at an AMCA meet in Fremont Nebraska soon and am trying to find any documentation of when the chrome muffler was availabe on the 165. I have found info and pictures for the tail light cover, crash bars (safty bars) and the horn cover, but can not locate my info on the muffler. If anyone has any thing I would be glad to share what I have found and all of this will be good information to post here on the club site for everyones benifit.
Please email me directly if you can assist me in this quest, thanks, Travis "The Harley Hummer Nut"
