Glen, I went through the same thing and restored my '48 with limited help from the Club. Everyone was looking for the same things I was. It took me 7 years. When the AMCA judged it the first time I scored big. As the years went on and the judges became more aware I was already in the Winners Circle. They gave me higher points than I deserved. My advice to you is don't worry about it if you don't have the $$....just enjoy it for what it is. You're it's 'caretaker'. History doesn't need to be made now. There's no rush....just keep it like it is until the time is right. Brent

I have this bike I restored back in the 70s, I did the best I could with the limited resourses of the times. The Harley Hummer club was the only communication among Hummer owners, a monthly newsletter and word of mouth. This was during AMF's ownership of HD and to be honest not many people were riding HD or excited about them.
My dad bought the bike in early 60's I rode it as a kid alot.
The bike was mothballed for about 30 years, I want to restore it one last time but to be honest like everybody else, I don't have a bunch of $$ to throw into it.
I never did anything to the motor, and had suspecions but it ran, that was all I needed it to do, never had any power.
I took the head and cylinder off last night, hoping it needed a bore job piston and rings, however a lot of slop in the lower rod bearing. MADE ME SICK. Any advice, help or suggestions would be appreciated.
