If You are in East Texas then Mutt would be the man to contact as He probably is`nt too far from where You live.
Mutt knows these machines quite well and will do right by You.

Thanks for your responses Mike & Martin. It's good to know that this fork lower is more or less normal. The forks fit a 1952 model that I recently traded for. It's in need of a complete rebuild, but all the parts are present and accounted for. This bike is in really good condition; very little rust, just a lot of east Texas red dirt caked everywhere.

I used to ride a 165 back in the '60's. It belonged to a friend, but I was able to ride it most days. Riding that bike gave me a sense of freedom like nothing else I knew. I was hooked on bikes for life.
