Rocky if you could also explain what you meant by saying they are two different bikes. I meant to ask this in the previous post but I forgot to put it. I think you were saying that the two engines are from different bikes but work for both. However the engine and the frame are two different bikes. Did I understand correctly?

Thanks
Anthony

I appreciate all the comments back. Jim, I appreciate the offer but right now I'm not positive that I am getting the bike and if I do it will be a little while before I am able to afford the engine.

Rocky, from the pictures ive seen (im going to look at it in person in the next few days) the frame, handlebars and front end are 49. The owner only said these parts where and from this website I would say they are as well. The rear fender is not a 49 and there is nothing on the front wheel. I just had a question. If you could explain.

TX125 Engine Number= Aermacchi/Harley from the 1970s.

From what I understand the engine that is on there is obviously not the original but one that is the same in its qualities. I would eventually like to get an original on the thing though

Doug thanks for the advice and the pictures as well. All the information is much appreciated!

I have a 48 motor WITH title that I would be willing to sell. It needs rebuilding but I live close enough to Mutt and need an excuse to go visit him anyway.

Read the engine #s.

In a '49 it is in a raised area on the front motor mount the motor sits down between plates around the lower frame tube. look on this group member pics to see examples of the whole bikes.

The TX has teliscopic front end and rear shocks:

Sorry about the long pic site but---

I have a '48 125 it just a "S" in the # such as 48SXXXX (where the "X"s symbolize numbers). A TX will have # as 7AXXXXH3 (TX 1 year only 1973, symbolized by H3).

Welcome to the World of Vintage Motorcycles.
You do have your work cut out for you on this proposed project.

You know it's 2 different bikes, not only a non-orginal engine. Both are 2-Strokes but that's were it ends.
TX125 Engine Number= Aermacchi/Harley from the 1970s.
Made in Italy= Metric
There is a good Yahoo group of guys under Aermacchi for information on the engine.

1949 Hummer= Made in the USA. I'm guessing that you compared the bike to pictures on the site? Or the seller told you it was a 1949.

IMO I would look for a correct Engine to rebuild?
If the bike is in good shape. You may even find one with an old Title? Which would help you get going in the right direction. Restoration takes alot of time and money, depending on your skill level.

I don't have a '49 so other riders may disagree, but the TX125 dirt bike engine may over-power the early rubber-band frame?

I am interested in purchasing a 1949 tx 125 motorcycle. The person that I am looking to buy it from doesnt have a title to it and from what I read on this site the serial number is not on the frame but on the motor. The problem is the motor on this bike isnt the original. I am worried that I will not be able to get a title for this bike. I found on google that some people said that if something doesnt have a title you would have to make sure you have a bill of sale when buying otherwise there is no shot at all to get a title. Would anyone know if it is possible to get a title anyway? I am really interested in this bike which would be a restoration project for me. Im glad I found this site, it is unbelievably helpful. Thanks!
