To: Hummer Club Leadership;

I want to thank all of you who have done the heavy lifting in making the Hummer website as good as it has become. It is certainly a vast improvement from when my membership began some years ago. I am saddened though that the governance of the website needs to be reviewed and improved in my opinion.

There are probably a number of different perspectives among members as to what the website should be. My personal view is that I am here for the memories and fellowship of others who either did or still do enjoy riding the Harley lightweights. Maybe to some the Hummer Club is an opportunity to profit by offering parts and services.

It seems to me that the opportunity to profit from the club has gotten out of hand and the governance of the club has failed to act promptly to maintain civility in the club. The open exchange of charges and counter charges about dealings between buyers and sellers of parts and services in vitriolic emails laced with profanity denigrates the whole club. I would think that the use of the website should be conditioned on proper deportment. Some of the exchanges included threats of bodily harm at the next gathering. That can’t be good for the club and could open the club to some liabilities. I would think that anyone who makes physical threats against others should be dropped and blocked from the club - period!

The whole commercial aspects of the website have to basically be chump-change. What is the highest price anyone has paid for a restored “Hummer”? I would guess few ever reach the $10,000 mark. I would think that many vendors do so as much as a hobby as for profit. The level of vitriol is not commensurate with the monetary reward.

You will find an article on me on the site, but don’t mistake my Christian commitment for fear. I have not led a sheltered life. In the 1970’s I worked in a street ministry among the druggies and hippies, and I have had a contract to kill me by the drug guys. In the 1980’s and 90’s I have worked with and camped with one per-centers, and I still have friends among them. I have not lived a sheltered life.

I urge leadership of the Hummer Club to consider the matters I have touched on in this short epistle.
