Perry, Thanks for the definitive fuse answer. I wonder how many people realize that their magneto-equipped Hummers, Pacers, Scats, Rangers and Bobcats all run on AC - Alternating Current? A generator's armature develops AC, but the commutator and brushes allow us to pull DC out of the generator. A magneto is really a generator that uses permanent magnets instead of electromagnets (field coils). Also, the typical magneto is built backwards from a generator - it has a rotating magnet and stationary output coils. Since it doesn't have a commutator or brushes, the output is AC. Dave |
