Dave,

Great point - a friend of mine used to run a auto wrecking yard. He had a big sign above the counter:

"If you want clean fresh, quality oats, you will have to pay a premium price.

If you will be satisfied with oats that have already been through the horse, well those might be a bit cheaper."

I hate to start sounding like Brent Dugan (who is my second best friend - my wife Jennifer is number one). But nobody in America make things anymore. We're all just trying to re-market Chinese crap for the best profit-margin.

You can find the UB6130 (under various names) from various sellers for $15, $30, $50, $150. The $15 seller wants $50 shipping and handling, while the $50 seller wants only $5 for S&H.

If you want the best deal on these kinds of things, you can't just point and click - you've got to do some WORK (anathema to the current generation) to find out who's selling the item at a fair (overall item + shipping) price.

Of course, for batteries, you've got to take into account the age of the merchandise - a business liquidator may have purchased 10,000 of these things, but they're 10 years old, and have far exceeded their useful life.

When you buy them from your local "battery warehouse", you can see the "born on" or "best before" date. When you buy them over the Internet, you get what you get.

If you buy from Toys-R-Us, and you have a problem, you can go back to them and demand a replacement or refund. If you save $5 and buy it from Joe-on-eBay, well, it's great if it works, but - good luck if you have a problem.

Batteries last a long while, but consider this:

I brew my own beer. Hop flowers are an annual crop, harvested in September, sold in October. Even frozen, they lose about 8% per month. Which means I have to calculate their age - and use 50% more in May than in October.

Yeast is even more fleeting - four months shelf life. I live out here in what Brent calls "twangy country", so I have to mail order my yeast as there are no homebrew stores within lots of miles. If it's more than 15 days old, I've got to do special preparations. I've gotten used to this.

-------
I take my Beer - and my Hummers - seriously. I seldom go for the low bidder - I order quality products from respected vendors, and I try to get the best value for my money.

You should too.
Dave

Looks like another UB6130 - haven't figured out why some are listed at 13
Ah and others with the same number are listed at 14 Ah...

Another Mystery of the Internet!

CJ,

Good catch finding this battery. You dropped the last letter from the URL -
it's

http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Power-Group-86452-
Electronics/dp/B003X3SFGW

The UPG web site lists this as "UB6130 TOY", so I suspect is was
designed for Power Wheels and similar.

Yes another good one. With a little imagination and a filler piece to increase
the width, painted black, it would pass the casual observer. Fits the Battery
tray with normal cover and hold down strap.

All,

I was out looking at batteries for some work stuff and saw this one -

UB6130
6 volt.
13 amp.
5.4"H x 2.8"W x 4.2"D

http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Power-Group-86452-
Electronics/dp/B003X3SFG

It looks very close to the dimensions of the H-3 to me and iis has13 Ah.
Not a battery for judging, but maybe another alternative?

Since I have not used one of these and obviously all of you know much
more than I do I'll leave it to you if this might work...
