Definitely replace the ignition points - they're the same as the stoplight points. Many points sets are made in China, some are good and some are made of the wrong metals. I've had a lot of problems with defective tractor points in the past few years.

If that doesn't do it, I'd wire up the ignition system only using the simplified schematic. Since the harness is new, it's suspect until proven otherwise.
