I am still using my 1968 Lawn Boy lawn mower which is a two stroke so I always have a supply of Lawn Boy two stroke oil on hand that I also use in my Hummers. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- This article just adds to my confusion as to what to use today. Looks like the common 'watery-black" 2-stroke oil at the gas stations may not be adequate....for ultralights or? Life was simple in 1955....just buy a can of 40wt oil. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- John, I agree, except that most lawn mowers are 4-stroke - so perhaps "suitable for weed-whackers, leaf-blowers and chain saws". Here is a good article on the differences between marine v. air-cooled engines and the differences in the oil used for them. http://www.ultralighthomepage.com/OIL/oil.html Here's another, but primarily talks about the differences in PWC engines/oils. Good introduction on some of the glop that goes into oil formulations. http://www.sea-doo.net/techarticles/oil/oil.htm Dave ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- I would think any two stroke oil that is sutable for air cooled lawn mowers would be OK to use in a Hummer engine. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- Think 40 wt was specified in The Day..wonder how this 2-stroke premix oil today compares...my grandson's 2-stroke Yamaha Zuma requires injector oil, which apparently differs from cheaper premix oil....so...what's the best for Hummers... ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- Dave and John, thanks for your replies. I may pick up a Model 125 tomorrow. This group seems to be a great for newbies like me!! ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- It's 25:1 Pick up some 2-cycle oil at your favorite store. They all have a chart of ounces to use on the back of the bottle, but if not, it's about 5.1 oz per gallon. Dave ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- What is the fuel/oil ratio for a 1950 Model 125? I am new to this model. I assume it is a premix process straight into the tank. |
