The ratio is 25:1 That's about 5.2 ounces of oil to a gallon of gas. I buy 1 gallon of gas in a can, and then add in the oil. Shake a little, and then pour in the tank. Don't mix up more than you will need, as gasoline with ethanol goes bad much faster than olde-fashioned gas. I mix up a gallon in the spring, then another one in mid-summer. That usually lasts me through the riding season. Originally, Harley used SAE 40 non-detergent oil. That's hard to come by these days, and modern two-stroke oil is much better anyway. I buy a quart of 2-stroke oil, and use as needed. Many stores sell little 2.6 ounce bottles - these are great if you're taking a long ride, and think you might need to get gas along the way. The little bottles fit in your pocket, and you can mix with 1/2 gallon of gas if you run low. In 35 years of Hummering, I don't think I've ever used the mixing cup on the gas cap. The oil cap on the bike says 2 caps for one gallon. That sounds like a lot of oil. Can anyone tell me if that is what is needed with today's oils? |
