Mutt, you just described Rust-o-Leum semi-gloss black. I liked your description of runs and dirt. Too many of the Trailer Queens are hand-rubbed and perfect. Harley never did that at the factory. Their bikes were made to be ridden and generate a profit at the same time. Those who rode them didn't care if the paint was perfect. Those who 'profiled' polished, waxed, and bragged. And then there were the customize'rs. If you're riding, most people don't see you for more than a glance anyway. I prefer un-restored ride-able originals over restored AMCA bikes....but own both. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- All black parts, other than the tank, fenders and fork panel, were painted with what was then known as "chassis black" It's about 85% gloss, not 90% or above Most all of these parts were dip painted. Even the NOS parts have runs in them, some even have specs of dirt embedded in the paint. It is not matte, nor is it satin. ----- ORIGINAL MESSAGE FOLLOWS ----- Can anyone advise if the paint on the swing arm on the Scat was satin black, or gloss black? |
