48 rim finish, and spoke finish

Postby stans48s » Mon Jan 07, 2019 7:32 pm

Anyone know if the 48 came out with chrome rims, as an option, or will black be the normal finish. Spoke finish. all mine are rusted, so I assume they were painted. I see a lot of stainless steel spokes now, so I guess stainless is the way to go. Any thoughts? a lot of good info here. Thanks Stan

I believe they were black along with the handle bars. Paint colors for tank and fenders were any color ya wanted as long as it was BLACK. Chrome and other colors were options in '49 I think spokes were cad plated.

1948 models came black stock , but the vast majority of the were ordered with chrome rims. Look at the assembly line picture of the 10.000th 48 model. The entire assembly line of the 48 models had chrome rims All 48-66 lightweight models had cadmium spokes and nipples. I got new stainless spokes and nipples (best price) if ya need them

Your125 looks great. I have a harbor freight lift also. I love it. I can't squat like I did when I was younger. I am a long way from spokes now, but will need them. How much do you get for your SS spoke sets? I was told if you bead blast them they look just like cad. Stan

Yes, if you bead blast them, they resemble cad more than if ya don't, Spoke set is $60 per wheel plus shipping

The chrome wheels do look better. I think with black rims there's too much black. Here in California with all the restrictions on the plating shops chrome is rather pricey. I took my Triumph wheels to shop near the Mexico border. They took the rims across the border, where chrome plating was about 1/2 the price. Another decision. Stan

Mutt,
Are your the spokes you have stainless? Do you have a phone number you can put on this sight? Don't blame you if you don't. Stan
