I have a 1954 165 ST. I need a cylinder head with part number 16652-53 according to my manual. I found one that is stamped 16652-53A. Can someone please advise if the head stamped with the A at the end will work and what that A means? I'm also a little suspect of the threads on the spark plug hole. They look a little off from the photo. Thank you.

the 54 is supposed to have the -53A casting number. You can weld the hole shut, then redrill and tap

Mutt,
If I find one with just the 16652-53 stamp will that work also? Do you have a head available that I could purchase? My engine vin is 1954 ST 3439.

yes, the -53 and the 53A heads both fit all 165 st models. No, no good heads in stock. They all have either broke missing fins, or the spark plug holes need to be repaired

There's a head on ebay right now. Is this the one you're looking for? https://www.ebay.com/itm/harley-hummer- ... SwOz5clASy

Yes, that is the one I was looking at. I got busy at work and could not get online to bid so I missed my second one now. I can't believe how scarce these things are. Apparently, the same guy in Florida had the last 2 165 cylinder heads without broken fins for sale. Both sold for like $41. I'm sure these things are sitting on shelves all over the place. I'm new to the Hummer scene after getting bored of restoring Hodakas. All I can say is this restoration is going to take a while. :)
