What paint is recommended for painting a muffler. I know it should be black but should it be gloss black, semi gloss black or flat black. I am restoring a 1954 165.

The paint I use and have found works well and looks very much like original is Krylon "High Heat Black" number 1618. Formerly known as BBQ Black. Available at many hardware stores, etc. Sprays easily and dries quickly.

Jim, It's good to hear from you. It's been a long time. As far as the muffler paint goes, is a primer needed and should it be a high heat primer? I'm not sure if there is such a thing.

Hi John,

I don't use a primer. This paint almost sprays like primer. Really nice going on. Covers very well.
