Brake linings

Postby Emerica1975 » Mon Feb 21, 2022 8:43 pm

I just ordered new brake shoe linings and received them. I didn’t realize however that they came with the holes not drilled. Can anyone give me any tips on drill bit sizes depth of the holes. I’m assuming the head of the rivet should be counter sunk, but I’m just not sure how deep. Thanks!!

the holes are 1/8" The counterbores depths are half the thickness of the lining. The counterbore diameter is the same o.d. of the rivet head

be VERY careful on the counter b bores. Those linings are VERY brittle

To one and all... if you're installing/using/modifying old brake linings you may be dealing with asbestos. Mask up and be careful in vacuuming or blowing out your drums/brake shoes with air. This comes from someone who worked for Johns-Manville Company in the past.

Thank you for the quick response. As soon as this winter storm passes I’ll be back out in the shop fitting the linings to the shoes!

You can get reconditioned, bonded lining brake shoes outright or exchange if you wish. Bonding is not practical for one or two sets as the agent is too
expensive for single set use. Duane Taylor

The brake rivet tool I ordered wont quite work with hummer brake shoes. Can someone steer me in the direction of what the correct tool I need is. And maybe where to order it from.
Thanks!
