45 mph. 50 downhill with a tail wind.

Remember, these were introduced in 1948 where traffic was lighter, speeds a little slower, and helmets were an option.
Check out some Harley-Davidson Model 125 advertisements to get an idea of riding attire of the time.

I don't have to imagine--I remember. Shorts, tennis shoes and the tail wind in my hair. 50.
