Not being a machinist, I have a question regarding using a set screw to eliminate the shifter lever slip. When drilling the hole through the lever and making a small dent in the shaft, will I need a special drill? AI would suspect the metal, especially the shaft, would be quite hard and the Home Depot versions may not be up to the task.

niether the lever or shaft are hardened. Use a 5/32" drill and tap the hole in the lever for a 10-32 set screw
