I’m having a problem with the top plate on my risers. It has to go down so far into the fork stem to engage the pin in the fork stem that the sides of the top plate bump my gas cap and won’t allow me to turn from side to side all the way. Do I have to get a fork that has the engagement pin closer to the top or is this just the way it has to be when running riser mounted bars?

Is it possible your fork stem is not properly seated in the base of the steering neck?

I have checked that and I have the fork stem pulled all the way up and the lower bearing is fully engaged. I wondered if Harley made a different front fork that has the engagement pin for the handlebars farther up the fork stem. But It doesn’t look like it. I’m at a loss.

I figured out my problem. I bought an aftermarket Hummer tank from lowbrow and it’s a little it taller than original tanks. It’s just barely enough taller that the riser top plate hits the fuel cap. I have an extra top plate and as much as I think it’s sin to defile oem parts I think I’ll have to re work the stem and make it a little longer.

Part of the pleasure these projects give us is the opportunity to figure out things like this…
Others see it as frustrating which tells me, they don’t have the proper frame of mind and should move on…
Modifying OEM can be a difficult decision when OEM is as old and rare as these bikes are but as long as it is not our first choice, it is okay. The end result is to get these rare bikes on the road again. I think this forum, the folks who maintain the forum, and its members, are the type who want to remind the world of what once was common, decades ago.
