It is always nice to find out what works.
Off thread a bit, I had a Honda GL1200 which developed an oil leak at the main seal.
The seal was obsolete.
The GL1500 main seal was same dimensions but the crankshaft rotated in the opposite direction and the concern was ushering oil out instead of keeping oil in.
The GL1500 seal was readily available for less than $20 as opposed to the obsolete GL1200.
I put 1500 miles on the GL1500 seal without seepage and reported my findings to the forum.
A gamble that paid off.
I sold the 1984 GL1200 and bought a 2012 Yamaha 1700 commuter.
That main seal never showed signs of seepage.
