Head gasket

Postby Emerica1975 » Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:04 am

I have a 165st engine and the repair manual I have says to use a sealant on both sides of head gasket. I have always installed the gasket without any kind of sealant. I’m wondering what other people do?

I used Indian Head shellac ( Permatex product) on my 125S. So far, so good.

I’ve used the Indian head shellac on the case halves before but maybe I’ll give it a try on the head gasket. I’m using a Webco head and it seems to blow past the head gasket I have on now without any sealant.

Have you checked that all contact surfaces are truly flat and smooth?
