Compression plates/stuffer plates

Here's where to ask questions and get answers

Back in the day I did a few stuffer plates for Hummers and similar.

For pins, I used short lengths of aluminum nails. Mike their OD and drill slightly smaller. Put the stuffer plate in the recess and drill for pins along the joint line so the drill is half in the stuffer and half in the plate. Tap the pins in place, then remove the stuffer and file the top of the pins off flush with the case joint face. The pins are just there to hold the stuffer in radial location. The recess in the case holds the stuffer in place axially with respect to the crank.

half the total thickness of your plate will go into the left case. That will include the entire thickness of the lip on the plate. What thickness that is left will go into the opposite case.

That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying that. Now I’ve got to clean up my cases and get the stuffer plate secured. I’ll post a picture of it once I’ve got it done. Thanks for all the help!!

I forgot to ask how much clearance I want between the stuffer plate and the crank weights? It’s a question I should have asked way earlier.

Here’s a few pictures of the stuffer plate in its finished stage. I hope my math was right and it sits inside the crank weights proper! Thanks again for all the directions and for answering my questions.
