Hard gear shifting

Postby Emerica1975 » Tue Nov 14, 2023 11:14 am

On 2 of my 165st’s when I shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear it’s hit or miss weather I’ll engage 2 nd gear on the first or second try. Sometimes I have to try numerous times and then finally it’ll shift into 2 nd gear. When I shift from 3rd into 2nd there’s never a problem. I’ve had the engines open and looked at transmissions and seen no visible problems. Any ideas?

Proper clutch adjustment is critical.
Other than that, from 1st to 2nd and passing through neutral, might need to pull a little harder and farther on the shift lever.
Also, the shift lever on My 1957 is not keyed to the shaft, it can be adjusted to whatever shoe or boot size You are wearing and that might help. :?:

I’ll double check my clutch adjustment. But the other 165 I have shifts smoothly from 1st to second without any problems. With the bikes I’m having problems with it actually helps if I go from 1st to neutral then from neutral to 2nd.
