Need a helper in central Florida for my St 165

Postby Bogeybobtoo » Mon Sep 17, 2018 10:20 pm

Anybody know of someone in the central Florida area that can help me get my 1958 ST 165 running? I purchased it about a month ago. I get good spark, the compression appears to be strong, and the gas runs freely from the tank. If I put gas in the cylinder, the motor will turn over momentarily. Can not get it to run. I’ve pulled apart and cleaned the carb, still no help. Oh, Is there an aftermarket carburetor I can buy to try to get it running. I do think it’s a fuel problem. Thanks for helping me. Bob

Have you disconnect the fuel line from the carb to see if you have fuel there? It is not uncommon for the petcock screen inside the tank to be clogged or the petcock itself to quit. The rubber seals dont like ethanol in our current fuels.

Bob,
Unscrew the large brass cap (11/16" wrench) on the bottom of the carb under the slide, it is the jet holder. You can then unscrew the jet and clean it thoroughly, that may solve your problem. There is no telling what dirt or grit may have vibrated loose from inside the fuel tank on the way to Florida, that bike sat in my building for 6 years before you bought it and was never started. Give it a try, good luck!
