Postby Geoff » Mon Mar 11, 2024 12:32 pm

Greetings humans,

Just aquired a 55 Hummer, been a long time Harley rider (now ride a BMW) Little Hummer looks good but hasn't run in 10+ years. Needs tires, battery, fuel system care etc...
Looking forward to my newest adventure. Anyone in N.E. Florida????

Cheers,

Geoff

If the bike in question really is a 1955 125 CC Hummer, it doesn't need or use a battery.

Ignition and lighting current are produced by an AC alternator and magneto.

Geoff,

You could have a substitute replacement engine. Is that VIN actually stamped into the side of one of the cases?

For electrical, does your engine have a generator with a wound armature and copper segment commutator and carbon brushes, or just a rotor with 4 permanent magnets?

If a 4 magnet rotor, your bike does not use a battery.

I think ST is 165cc, Hummer would be B and 125. Most folks call 'em all Hummers. If it has a shroud around the carb, a battery and a generator it's a 165.
