'63 Jiffy Stand Question

Postby bobscogin » Thu Aug 15, 2019 6:41 pm

On my '63 Scat and Pacer, what provides the "detent" that holds the stand in position? The Ramp (50090-63), held in the top of the bracket by a 10-32 screw, is in place, and I suspect it plays a part in the detent system. Between the spring and upper bracket is a flat washer and the ramp bears against it. Does Pivot Seat 50019-52 go there where the washer is and engage the ramp? I'm missing that part wherever it goes. Any help sorting this out is appreciated.

the ramp does. Make sure it is positioned right before tightening the screw

Thanks, Mutt. Bear with me. I'm a little slow sometimes. Looks like the ramp can only go one way. It has a semi-circular cutaway that straddles the jiffy stand leg, so if it's not turned the right way the screw won't go in. What provides the detent notch for it to go into? Something with notches must go where the smooth washer is? Still scratching my head.

Hi Bob;
Here is a pic of my 63 Pacer. One thing Mutt suggested that helped alot was to leave the screw on top loose and cycle the stand a few times then tighten the screw. This will allow the ramp to find its proper home.

As I said, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but with help from Mutt, the photo of Don's jiffy stand, and a conversation this morning with my buddy John in Houston, the light came on. Removed the washer, drove the pin further in until it passed under the ramp and Bingo! A detented stand that stays in the up and down position. Thanks all!
