Hello from western Oklahoma

Postby Dave Beck » Sat Feb 02, 2019 8:49 pm

Just got a 1959 165 stu and started restoring it. When I was a kid I rode a Cushman eagle. There were only 2 Harley Hummers in my area and only the (RICH KIDS) rode them. Looking forward to getting my childhood dream going.

DAVE:
CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING A 165 TO RESTORE. TRYING TO DO ONE 20 YEARS AGO WAS A DAUNTING EXERCISE IN FINDING PARTS. I STARTED TO RESTORE A 49S SOME 30 YRS AGO AND FINDING SOME PARTS WAS
NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. SINCE I HAD TOOL & DIE SHOP I STARTED MAKING PARTS FOR THEM AND IT GOT SO BUSY I NEVER HAD TIME TO RESTORE THAT BIKE FOR YEARS. OVER THE YEARS, OTHER FOLKS HAVE MADE PARTS FOR THEM AND NOW YOU CAN FIND MOST ANYTHING YOU NEED TO DO THE JOB.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS YOU CAN POST HERE OR FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME AND I WILL ANSWER OR REFER YOU TO SOMEONE WHO HAS THE ANSWER.

Duane,
Thanks for the friendly reply. I need to talk to you I understand you can restore speedometers. My 59 has one not sure if it is correct, it does work , but dirty inside and not sure if it has the correct dial for 59 it is black. Just want it spiffed up. It has the cutouts for a light with brittle plastic, but no light around it anywhere.
Thanks again,
Dave Beck
